ADC’s Soneplex system is the lowest total cost solution for
carriers to grow their T1 business services. Focused on
providing flexible, end-to-end solutions, the Soneplex system
saves carriers money on T1-based services over fiber or
copper, using HDSL, ADSL, traditional T1 repeater or Optical
DS2 technology, in a single platform. From operations,
maintenance, provisioning and high-speed backbone connec-
tions to central office space and cabling, the Soneplex system
is designed to take costs out of today’s T1 delivery approach,
adding profit to your bottom line.
FEATURES
• Provides bipolar access to DS1 signals
• Allows monitor, drop and insert capability on any DS1 link

Soneplex Test Access Unit
®
Drop and insert access is provided through Bantam jacks on the Soneplex Test Access
Description Unit front panel and is controlled through the Main Processor Unit (MPU) craft inter-
face. The TAU requires the B1 DS3 MUX and MPU software Version 4.2 or later or the
SONET Processor Unit (SPU) Version 1.0. It mounts in the Soneplex EC1M/VTMM and
Version 6 software and mounts into the Soneplex Broadband chassis slot labeled TAU in
the high speed section.
Two bantam jacks, labeled transmit (TX) and receive (RX) located on the front panel of
the TAU provide a bidirectional industry standard interface to any one of the 28 DS1
signals. The interface may be used with 22 gauge plastic insulated cable (PIC) up to 133
feet in length. The access is configured through the craft interface for drop or insert of
DS1 signals either toward the network or toward the customer for monitoring and
intrusive testing. AMI or B8ZS line code may be selected by a push button switch on the
front panel.
