Engineers and technicians will be required to comply with this policy as a condition of employment. Engineering lab notebooks will be the property of the company and, as such, will be surrendered to engineering document control upon termination or job change.

This chapter shows an electronic method of assigning document numbers and establishing an electronic database. The number assignment method detailed in Ch. 6 is for a manual paper-based documentation system. All documents will need to have unique numbers assigned to them for identification and tracking purposes. The document number is used as a locator (find number) in a database, and identifies each unique document type.

This chapter covers several subjects including a block number system, document-numbering systems, document titles, logbooks for policies, departmental instructions, engineering procedures, forms, manuals, document review forms, document change request form, and a document master list.

Changes to documents shall be reviewed and approved by the same organizations that performed the original review and approval unless specified otherwise. The designated organizations shall have access to pertinent background information upon which to base their review and approval.

The policy has the simplest format compared to procedures. The cover page could have a header and a footer to capture useful information and approval signatures and subsequent pages will just have a header to link the pages together. The same format is used for all policies, because having them all the same, as much as possible, is more economical. Any time there are variations in thinking patterns, time and money are wasted.

This book covers the method where engineering procedure writers write their own policies, departmental instructions and engineering procedures and obtain approval from the Document Review Board (Ch. 5) and releases them into engineering document control. Engineering document control publishes the manuals and distributes them to end-users.

The existing procedures were analyzed for quantity, and evaluated for quality and availability. After performing an analysis of the document system, the consensus was that there were not enough procedures and they were all different because there was not a standard format in place to follow.

We explore an approach to possibilistic fuzzy c-means clustering that avoids a severe drawback of the conventional approach, namely that the objective function is truly minimized only if all cluster centers are identical. Our approach is based on the idea that this undesired property can be avoided if we introduce a mutual repulsion of the clusters, so that they are forced away from each other. In our experiments we found that in this way we can combine the partitioning property of the probabilistic fuzzy c-means algorithm with the advantages of a possibilistic approach w.r.t. the interpretation of the membership degrees.......
